Wild Carrot’s fifth release, Between the Darkness & the Light, captures Pam Temple & Spencer Funk in the studio delivering the organic, honest Folk & Americana songwriting that have won them fans & awards over their 18 years making a living in the arts.  It features a dozen tunes, nine of which are original compositions, filed with caught-in-the-moment characters & musings on themes of love, loss, & a spoon (really): “Pancake Breakfast” was inspired by a piece on NPR's "This I Believe." "The Robin's Song", won a Mother's Day songwriting contest, although Temple is not a mother.  And "Now I Fly" is the hopeful processing of personal tragedy. Their excellent taste in musical influences is evident on a haunting rendition of Kevin Welch’s “Flycatcher Jack & the Whippoorwill’s Song,” a carrotized version of Emmylou Harris’ “Red Dirt Girl,” & Temple on dulcimer covering Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You.”  Folk, Americana music listeners will find some new songs to love here.

Wild Carrot’s wide, diverse range of material has, from the beginning, included swing standards and traditional jazz tunes.  The aptly titled CD, I’ve Heard That Song Before, captures the essence of both traditional jazz and swing and the folk roots of Wild Carrot, bringing them together in unique and fun arrangements that can’t help but bring a smile to the listener.  The CD was recorded live at Peter Karl’s Brooklyn, NY recording studio in two sessions.  Joining Wild Carrot (vocals, guitars, mandolin) are:  pianist Hank Ross (The Red Onion Jazz Band; Pee Wee Irwin; Bob Helm; Kenny Davern; Marty Grosz; Jimmy McPartland; Tony Parenti), clarinetist Pete Martinez (Vince Giordano’s big band The Nighthawks; Jimmy Noon’s The Apex Project), trumpet great Simon Wettenhall (The National Underground; Woody Allen’s traditional jazz band) and bassist David Dreiwitz (New York City’s School of Rock).

Bringing their award-winning, refreshing and engaging live show to CD, Crowd Around the Mic features Pam Temple and Spencer Funk in an intimate live concert setting in quartet with Their Roots Band.  This recording showcases the joy and energy this quartet brings to their unique mix of American Roots music, allowing them to connect with an audience in an honest and energizing way.  This project from Wild Carrot and Their Roots Band was truly grown from the ground, funded almost entirely by the audiences at these concerts and donations from fans.

Hope focuses on the Wild Carrot’s strong songwriting and ever-sharp eye for songs that speak to life, love and the complications of the soul.  The collection includes the duo’s award-winning song “These Songs” (winner of the 2000 Walnut Valley Festival’s New Songs Contest and finalist for the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Contest) and some well-chosen covers run through the hearts and minds of the duo (“Light Enough to Find My Way”, “Tide and the River Rising”, “Running From Mercy”).  Recorded with dulcimer great Bob Bellamy and singer/songwriter/producer Chris Rosser, guest musicians include Don Porterfield (touring with Kate Campbell) on fretless bass, Josh Serukamp (David Wilcox) on percussion and Brandt Smith (Carrie Newcomer) on Dobro and banjo.
